Tupiza - La Paz
March 28, 2007, 5:57 pmSalta to Tupiza
March 16, 2007, 11:19 pm
We had a bit of a false start leaving Salta, when we were all packed and ready to go and i noticed my front rack had cracked. Again. It wasn't Eugenio's weld that broke though, so that's ok. I retain my faith in all workmen with good beards. So another day was spent waiting for a new weld and then we got on the road to San Salvador de Jujuy, the capital of Jujuy province. Irritatingly, the new weld came apart about 50km down the road to Jujuy. So we stopped on the way into town and found a workshop to make a new front rack. A good guy called Juan had an excellent copy of my old one made by the following morning, and also showed me the proper way to chew your Coca leaves. Splendid stuff. No beard though, so we'll have to see if his welding's up to the task...

Amaicha to Salta
March 6, 2007, 12:38 am
We had been told there was some kind of festival going on in Amaicha and as soon as we entered the small town it was obvious something big was going on. The roads were rammed, not even enough room to get past the traffic on our bikes, there were people everywhere, and as we got closer to the center of town we started seeing people wandering around covered in, well we didnt know what they were covered in, something dirty. It all looked quite fun.

After possibly two of the best weeks of the trip so far, we're now in Salta, up in the NorthWest of Argentina, and we've started getting properly up into the hills... but more of that later.
