from me + chris,
Peace n joy n happy happenings
Ps.chris is lovin the beard- we just found funny foto with you in it, putting shaving foam all over chris!
Blenka's reply : Hello boys! long time no see Jepson! I just got rid of the beard yesterday though, so im now in mourning.
Back in sunny blighty now myself, so lemme know when you're back in London and we'll go frisbeeing. Or something

Ian me old China, that is a damn fine Grizzly Adams impression, very impressed, very different from the fresh faced Home office paper pusher that I once knew! Particularly liked the cowboy action photo.
Hugo
Blenka's reply : Thanks mate, Im thinking of taking up the ol' cowboying full time... i reckon there's a niche in the market in Essex.
Are you still in London at the minute? Should go for some beers if youre still about...

Hey Blenk
Well done mate - on the Beard that is. You may win Beard of the Year if you keep it up. Anyway well done on what you've acheived (bike related) and see you at CS Sports Day 2008. (Chuckle chuckle)
Tariq

Blenka's reply : Cheers Tariq, i think i might actually be flying back in on Sports Day 2007... so if you boys make it to the final, i might just be able to get there for a brief but spectacular cameo with the bat...
I'll be waiting for the call.

hi,
My wife and I are beginner cyclists, after 7000km in Asia, soon reaching Turkey, want to change to Central/South America.
We plan on upgrading our Trek 4500 mountain bikes (which we found not good enough) to serious touring bikes in CA and head south.
So, we have a million Q, like what bikes, how are the roads (paved?) any danger in Colombia or central A. countries etc. also, When to go? we plan on crossing to Mexico at around December-January.
What do you think? (about my questions!!!)?
PS - nice pics ;-)
Blenka's reply : Hi Guys,
Im afraid we can't offer any advice about Central America as we've only ridden as far as North Colombia. I think it would be possible to stay on Paved roads though, although that's also where the traffic tends to be heavier so you might get a bit bored of being surrounded by lorries all day!
In South America we've spent the majority of our time on paved roads, but you can usually choose to take some quieter gravel/mud roads if you want to put yourself through that! the roads were probably worst in Patagonia and Bolivia (depending on your route - its possible to avoid really bad roads if you want to)
Unfortunately I dont think i can give much advice about touring bikes either... we've just been using fairly standard mountain bikes with strong downhill wheels and front suspension (possibly unnecessary). I'd recommend a leather Brooks saddle though: mine's been utterly brilliant.
I wouldnt worry too much about the security situation in Colombia either. the advice we got was to stick to the major roads which are really heavily policed and all the towns along them are very secure. Its possibly been the best country to cycle in for us, so if youre thinking of coming here, just do it! Beautiful scenery, extremely friendly people, nice coffee and fruit juices...
Let us know if you want any more details about anything though, id be happy to help
best of luck with the ride!

Hey guys! Congrats on making it to Quito and we hope you're enjoying the surfing and stuff. We're currently in Cusco but, having run out of time, we're getting a bus to Quito so we can cycle in Colombia, which we've heard is awesome. Judging by your account of Peru and similar stories we heard from a french couple, we feel a bit wimpish about missing it but also kinda glad to avoid the constant hassling for money etc. etc.
Anyway, good luck with the rest of the trip when you get going again and if we don't meet here in South America then how about a beer or two in London to swap stories and stuff?
Dave and Gary
Rich's reply : Cheers guys,
From what weŽve heard I think youŽll like Colombia more than the North of Peru. The scenery has been mind blowing from what weŽve seen from the bus window so far.
We leave Bogota in a few days for the final stint up to Cartagena - when do you think you will be in the north of Colombia? WeŽll be buming around the beaches up there for the last two weeks of July if you can make it by then ? If not then hasta Londres.
Suerte

Lads I had written a rather long and I thought rather hilarious missive about your travels and pretty much how I thought you were up there with the likes of Shackleton and Bonnington. Unfortunately, it was littered with expletives like you pair of f**king legends and the like and unfortunately I think it got censored. Anyway here are the same sentiments in shorter form.
Regards
Rich's reply : Cheers for the message Aukett - it wasnt censored, we were just too busy becoming surfing legends to log on and put your message up online - but its worked out for the best, cos now you have two messages, and we look even more popular.
Anyway, must go, I need to go and stop Blenk from robbing those banks.

Just offfering some encouragement as I believe you are coming to the end of your cycling soon? Hope you're on the lookout still for a Sandwich. We had a visitor in school this week called Ned (a guy from America with punky hair) giving a talk on how we should encourage others, so I'm throwng it your way, keep going!
Rich's reply : Cheers for the encouragement Eva, only two weeks cycling left until we hit the Caribbean!!
You will get a sandwich soon i promise - sorry for taking soo long!

Allright lads. Glad to see that you are still alove and well. Sounds like you have been through some pretty hair rasing moments ! Really enjoyed reading about your two wheeled exploits over the last 7 or 8 months (is it) - its really made me hanker for South America all over again. Just so jealous of what you ahve acheived although by the sounds of it, I reckon that you will never ever want to see or be near another bike by the end of it. You will be like campaigners for public transport when you get back "Take the bike round London, its great!!" Er f*ck off" ! Anyway Lads just wanted to say well done this far and hope you enjoy your month of. What a pair of Legends
Hasta Luego

hey boys, just saw that rich and rosie wrote to you! we ran into them in El Chalten, just before our terrible border crossing to Chile... a looong time ago, seems like ages. A fun couple to hang out with!
We're in Huaraz now, finally made it cross the Andes the last (hopefully!) time in Peru. our highest pass was 4886m, also our highest campsight. everything was frozen the next morning and our the dragonfly didnŽt want to work..so no oats and hot coffee that morning.
anyway, we're stuck for a while in Peru, so cannot meet up with you in Ecuador. ryan's frame cracked and we're in contact with the dealer right now to find a solution...
we'll keep you posted
besos

Dear Ian & assistant cyclist/navigator/companion/mentor,
We have just got back from Canada, and you're STILL out there in S.America. Come home lads, all ios forgiven, and I'm sure that your Mujms have only rented out your room on short lets. Ian, we stayed with Paul & Jo, they live in Tracksell Avenue, Saanich, a suburb of Victoria, Tracksell Avenue is off a main road Called Blenkinsop Avenue. Coincidence or what ? Spooky !
love, ( in a manly sort of way )

hey guys, i have come to plead with you- Ive got Mumm-Ra playing at the bitter end on the 4th August, so please please can you have your homecoming there? Its going to be a wicked night- Bands and bands and dancing and stuff
A little birdy (ok, it was the jones) said you want to have it at the hornchurch firkin... but they have bands in there too on a saturday night- crappy cover bands, not brilliant bands named after cartoon super-vilains... Im rubbish at persuading, but it'd be really nice if you could come to the bitter end

xx

I'm still in love with Blenka

I stay awake nights thinking about him. i wonder if he ever thinks about me?...
Hope you're well, i've been catching up on all the places you've been, when i read about the robbery i was a bit dissapointed (also relieved at the same time) that it was a pick pocketting. i was imaginging Maoist Taoist rebels kidnapping you (although why they would be in S America in the first place is beyond me) and forcing you to give them oral pleasure.
Well take care buddy and i'll hopefully see you when you get back.
may the schwartz be with you.
lov epete
Blenk's reply : Hey up Pete,
Dont worry man, How could I ever forget you eh? I still wake up screaming, when i have nightmares about your superfast beamers flying straight at my delicate face. And they say the Germans can't play cricket?!
i think its just pure luck that we've avoided the Maoists so far... but they're out there somewhere... watching... biding their time...
Definitely catch up in a couple of months when im back home.
