Hi you both,
we have seen you shortly in ugly, stinky Chimbote at a very crouded street so that we couldnt stop and talk to you...
A day later we found your URL at KM 348/ Clementes Restaurant. We should say hello to you which we herewith do..
Hoepe, you have a great time going up to the north. You are lucky guys because of the wind. Hope, that we will get tailwind as well sometimes on our way down to Ushuaia.
Buz the way: Say hello to John from Manchaster. We met him in Riobamba/ Ecuador some weeks ago..
Enjoy riding
Andrea and Joerg (www.pan-america.de)
Rich's reply : Hi!
Shame we didnt get to talk in Chimbote ( that really was a horrible, smelly town!). Glad you found Clementes place though, what a legend! I hope he looked after you as well as he did us.
Dont worry about the wind, in south patagonia you`ll have the strongest tail wind you can imagine!!
Odd that you met John too!! I think nearly everyone we have met has met him too somewhere! He must talk to a lot of people.
Enjoy the trip down to Ushuaia

Dear Fellas
Thermarest chair! The lap of the Gods!
Holllaaaaaa – we are two cyclists from Blighty, currently in Cuenca in Ecuador and heading south, and hopefully somewhere on your route!
We’ve just stumbled on your cracking website whilst getting info for our cycle south through Peru and Bolivia, and wondered if there was a chance of meeting up! You are going to love Ecuador (would recommend cycling through the mountains, instead of the coast) – we’d be very happy to pass on all we know to you (like how to avoid bare-fisted fights with wolves in Cotopaxi National Park!!!!), and of course meet up for a yarn, cycle and stories too!
Looks like we’re carrying just about the same kit as you – funny (or bloody well not) how those Bomb-proof Blackburn racks just can’t hack the pace (we lost all four front and back racks in Spain, Argie and Chile before arriving in Ecuador), and the Altura gloves we bought were no better than wearing me mam´s woolly socks! - cable ties and brown parcel tape (sinta maron, bought from any Fereteria) should save your spokes if the welding doesn’t want to reach Venezuela with you!!
Looks like we are heading into Peru via Macara in the next few weeks, from Loja in Southern Ecuador, but that’s about as far as we’ve planned – hopefully be heading into the Cordillera Blanca and Central Highlands, rather than the coastal roads.
Love to hear from you - Bueno Peddlin´ and have tops fun !
Rich & Rosie x x x x
Rich's reply : Hey guys!
Good to hear from you. Unfortunately we´re heading up the coast a litle then taking the moutain route to Riobamba, so wont be going your way. Would have been good to go out for a drink or two.
Thats a pretty hardcore route you´re taking! We had had enough of the hills after Bolivia and south Peru so went down to Nazca and up the coast for the last bit. Not the most interesting route but a nice break, and some nice tailwinds
Enjoy the rest of your trip
Suerte

Richard,
Your hair has gotton truly richdiculous. You must allow me to shear you when you get to Cuenca.
Blenk,
I think you need a re-shearing.
Once I am done with all this shearing of men I can give myself the nicjname shearer and lie to people, telling them it´s because Alan Shearer is my uncle. I´m totally serial.
Rich's reply : Im not so sure.
Bit worried it might all end up a bit more Terry Butcher than Alan Shearer.
Maybe practice on Blenk first

Rich's reply : Cheers Jude ( and the tribe)

I may have no idea who you are, and you may have even less of a clue who i am, but nevertheless i must post you a message to let you know how awesome your trips sounds! Also, the beards rocks. Have you checked for small animals yet? To add to your gatherings to charity during your travels, your beards could provide some homeless creature a warm nesting place. Just a thought.
Best wishes on the rest of your trip! Cycle like the weeeeend!! ::flails::

Hello nice beards, time running out before we get kicked off the machine
Blenk's reply : Thank you very much. Are you guys still travelling then?!

I have nothing of any value to say (no change there) I just wanted to be able to legitimately use the little Luxembourg flag.
Ta daaaaaa!
Blenk's reply : Stop using our guestbook for your strange flag obsession. Its neither the time nor the place

Hey there! We've been meaning to email you ever since we saw your scribblings in a visitors book in Morro Chico. A tiny place next to a massive lump of rock in the middle of deepest darkest Tierra de Fuego. We have been following in your wheel ruts and have cycled up from Ushuaya. Although we haven't detoured through Argentinian lakes or Bolivia. I was hoping that you could provide us with tips for getting water out of the Atacama, but you bypassed it didn't you....!
May the wind be behind you,
Abby and Paul
A
Blenk's reply : Hey guys! Good to hear from you... Whereabouts are you now? Give us an email if youre gonna be catching us up and we could maybe meet up somewhere!
We didnt do the ride up through the Atacama ourselves but we looked into it and got some advice and apparently a fair few people do do it. We took a Jeep tour from Tupiza that passed a lot of the route you'd be riding, and our guide said they do see these crazy cyclists around this time of year. Usually they just hold an empty bottle out to show they need water and most of the Jeeps on the road will stop and give them a bottle. Also, there's plenty of Jeep tours running around the area this time of year, so I wouldnt have thought youd struggle.
If you go up from San Pedro de Atacama, let a few tour agencies know your route and stuff, when you expect to arrive in Uyuni or wherever, and maybe ask them to carry some extra water along for when they see you.
The scenery round there was unbelievable, it'd be an amazing ride. Best of luck anyway, and let us know how you get on!

Dear Ian,
We would like to send you birthday greetings in advance. You will be sculling around Gringo City or similar, and we will be in Victoria, British Columbia visiting Paul, Jo, Rebecca, Ben & Emily ( we do rather like free holidays), and we are not sure if they have telephones yet in deepest Canada, so, HAPPY BIRTHDAY IAN for 4th May.
Did you know, that in many parts of South America, hyolu have to have anything that you want on your birthday, anything at all, it's the law, so why not get your chum there, to give you a cross bar for the whole day, to save your legs ??
In the meantime, May the 4th be with you !!
(The old ones are the best)
Sop snoy your day Ian, be in touch soon, once we get back to the UK in late May.
Aunt Judy & Bob.
Did you know that in many parts
Blenk's reply : Thank you very much folks, and give my love to Paul and Jo and the family when you see them. Had a great birthday in Lima in the end, and we just celebrated rich's yesterday here in Trujillo as well.
Thanks for all your photo comments as well! Keep em coming!

Heya Guys, hope all is going well, where have you got to? This website is amazing n I just wanted to remind you that I think what you are doing is amazing (if a little crazy) and will make a wicked story for the grandkids, so keep up the good work and stay motivated.
Abi xx (from Loki in Cusco)
Blenk's reply : Thank you Abi! But really, the grandkids dont want to know... they're only interested in their playstations and their drugs these days. And after all ive done for them.
Ungrateful little...

Gents,
All the best to you - been following your progress and it looks amazing. Blenks...some of the ruins may well be Chachapoyan - The Chachapoyas people were, according to Spanish chroniclers, tall, fair-skinned warriors. They were organised, with a common sense of cultural identity, and put up strong resistance against the Inca state in the 1400’s. It is quite possible that a significant part of the Chachapoyan empire was never defeated by the Incas. Hope it all continues to go well.
All the best
Dan
Blenk's reply : You are a knowledgeable man Aukett, always with the facts to hand at the appropriate time. Cheers for that! We're off to see Chan Chan this afternoon - think its a big adobe city left by the Moche... or one of that lot.
Any more info would be appreciated cause we're not going to be able to understand all the stuff in Spanish at the site!
*Edit*
I'm sorry Dan, it was the Chimú civilisation, not the Moche. Please don't hate me.

Hello to you! Hope you're going strong and loving it. I have another challenge for school. This class is younger. (7 yr olds)My final teaching placement is in a village called Sandwich. So I was wondering if you pose for a picture with your bikes (they would love it) with a South Amercian 'Sandwich'

whatever that may be. And (if possible) a 'hello class 6'. Keep going or as they say in Poland 'Polamanie'.
Blenk's reply : Would a guinea-pig sandwich freak the kids out too much do you think? Its cute little face and paws sticking out the end of a floury bap?
We're on it Eva, you can rely on us.

Hey guys,
This is a message for Ian B coz i don't know the rest of you, but the sentiments are for you all.
Hope you're having a fantastic time, sorry it's taken me so long to get in touch but i am a lazy fecker as you know.
I'm dead jealous of you guys, it certainly beats arguing about semantics in the Home Office i'm sure.
Safe riding and hope to speak to you on your return
Peace
TTFN
